Irwin Levine, along with frequent collaborators Larry Brown, Toni Wine, and Al Kooper, was among the most active East Coast songwriters in the post-Brill Building era of the 1970s.

He followed up such early hits as Jay & The Americans’ “This Diamond Ring” and Three Dog Night’s “I Can’t Quit Her” with a series of enduring pop hits. Levine was responsible for nearly all the charted output of Tony Orlando & Dawn, including such evergreens as “Knock Three Times,” “Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose,” and the perennial “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree,” as well as such Top 40 entries as “Summer Sand,” “Who’s In The Strawberry Patch With Sally,” and dance track “Steppin’ Out (Gonna Boogie Tonight).”

He also contributed several defining songs to TV’s ‘The Partridge Family,’ including the early ‘70s hit “I Woke Up In Love This Morning,” recently synched into a Burger King commercial, and “Am I Losing You.”
