Sampling

In addition to representing songwriters, Spirit also represents thousands of master recordings spanning six decades and practically every music genre - from early Pop standards to Classic Rock, R & B, Country, Latin and modern Pop, Rock and Punk. Below you'll find a list of some of the master catalogs we represent:

Enjoy! Records
The seminal Rap label was started in 1979 by legendary producer Bobby Robinson, Jr. when he released the Funky Four's "Rappin & Rockin The House" followed quickly by the Furious Five's "Supperappin." Selling nearly 2000 plus copies a day of both records, he quickly signed on several other artists including The Fearless Four, Doug E Fresh, Kool Kyle and The Treacherous Three - who's massive hits, "Love Rap", "New Rap Language" and "At The Party," helped Enjoy become one of the blueprints for the entire rap record industry. As the original records are re-released on various compilations, still played in clubs the world over and are continuously sampled by artists ranging from Jay-Z and Moby to Mariah Carey & J-Kwon, Enjoy! Records is still alive and well today.
K-Tel
Spirit is privileged to represent K-Tel, a company best known as the most successful marketer of current hit compilations from the 60's, 70's and 80's. The company's treasure trove of original recordings and high quality original artist re-records run the stylistic gamut from the early Pop hits of Johnny Ray, the Crew Cuts, Bobby Rydell and Chubby Checker to rock pioneers Little Richard, Duane Eddy and the Surfaris and soul icons Lloyd Price, Brook Benton, Etta James and the Drifters; from early -60's stars Lesley Gore, Bobby Freeman, Jay Black and Little Anthony to Motown's Mary Wells and Martha Reeves to mid-60's popmakers the Association, the Buckinghams and Tommy James to late-60's rockers the Turtles, the Grass Roots and Iron Butterfly; from chart-topping 70's hits by Mungo Jerry, Jean Knight, Dobie Gray, Paper Lace and Stephen Bishop to 80's hits by Johnny Lee, Gary U.S. Bonds, Tommy Tutone, Yarbrough & Peoples, Animotion, the Jets and Atlantic Starr.
Passport Entertainment
Veteran West Coast Multimedia company is best known for producing compilations by some of the Pop, Jazz and Country's biggest names through the 60's and 70's. Passport's classic masters include works by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Judy Garland, Shirley Caeser, George Jones, Patsy Cline, Ray Charles as well as the famed Mantovani Orchestra. The company also boasts a second-to-none collection of international music from past decades including popular recordings from South America, Latin America, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union.
Tappan Zee Records
Formed in the mid- 70's by jazz icon Bob James, Tappan Zee offered James the opportunity to maintain creative control over his recordings. Indeed, the label's catalog represents James' most prolific period, including all of his solo work from 1977-1988 (One, Two, Three, H, Sign Of The Times, Touchdown, Obsession and Ivory Coast) as well as an acclaimed collaboration with Earl Klugh. Through this period, Tappan Zee Records set the standard for fusion jazz.
