Jaz-O
By definition, an originator is a person who creates or initiates something. What better word to define rap legend, Jaz-O? As a mainstay in the entertainment industry for over 30 years, he has initiated the careers of Jay-Z, Irv Gotti, Sauce Money, The Lox, Chad Elliott, Memphis Bleek and many more.
Hailing from Marcy Houses in Brooklyn, NY, Jaz-O started rhyming at the age of 13. By the age of 21, he had co-written and produced his first record, “HP Gets Busy,” featuring his 16 year old “protege” Jay-Z, and friends, Easy LD (E. Ward) and Almond Joy (J. Ward). Throughout the following twenty years, he would team up with some of the best music writers and artists that Hip-Hop and R&B has to offer. With them he would go on to create songs such as “My Fila” with Fresh Gordon, his smash hit single, “Hawaiian Sophie,” a feature on The O’Jays number one single, “have You Had Your Love Today?” and produce Jay-Z’s Hip Hop classics such as “Ain’t No Nigga,” “In My Lifetime – The Big Jaz Remix,” “Rap Game – Crack Game,” and features on “Bring It On” and “Nigga Who? Nigga What?”
As the first ever rap artist signed to EMI Records, he released two albums and an EP, working alongside Prince Paul, The Large Professor, and Mark The 45 King. After a brief hiatus, he re-emerged in high demand, producing and arranging for Hip Hop notables such as The Lox, Sean P. Diddy Combs, Rakim, M.O.P., Foxy Brown, Queen Latifah, Kool G Rap and numerous others.
Jaz-O and his record label Kingz Kounty Media Group has recently inked a distribution deal with Equity Distro, an entity of long time friend and mentee Jay-Z. Jaz-O is still putting in work, recently touring with Eric B & Rakim while completing his much anticipated EP, “The WarmUp.” Although much has changed in the industry over the years, Jaz-O continues to develop artists and display his unparalleled “triplet” rhyming style. Jaz-O – majestically renowned “The Originator!”
