Lew Spence
Lew Spence, a West Coast songwriter/composer, best known for his collaborations with Alan and Marilyn Bergman, wrote for some of the greatest voices of the 1950s and 1960s.
For Frank Sinatra, one of Spence’s biggest fans, he wrote the standard “Nice ‘N’ Easy,” as well as “Half As Lovely,” “If I Had Three Wishes,” “Love Looks So Well On You,” and the classics “Sleep Warm” and “So Long My Love.”
He also penned the hits “Off Again, On Again” and “Outta My Mind” for Dean Martin and the beautiful “Magic Garden” and “Live It Up” for Johnny Mathis.
Legendary female vocalists have also covered Spence songs, including Barbara Streisand (and a host of others over the years) cutting the standard “That Face” and Peggy Lee’s “That’s Him Over There” and “I’ve Never Been So Happy In Love.”
In recent years, “Nice ‘N’ Easy” found its way into two Broadway musicals simultaneously, the acclaimed ‘Fela’ and Twyla Tharp’s ‘Come Fly Away.’
Spirit creative execs have recently placed Spence songs in films and TV shows such as ‘Package Deal’ and CBS’ ‘The Defenders.’
