Matt and Kim
Matt and Kim, the dynamic Brooklyn-based duo, have become synonymous with high-energy performances and infectious indie pop. Keyboardist Matt Johnson and drummer Kim Schifino first crossed paths in 2004 while attending the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Their musical journey took flight two years later, after a spring tour with Meneguar, when they began recording their debut album. Released in the fall of 2006, their self-titled debut album dropped via the I Heart Comix label and quickly gained traction. Their vibrant, feel-good sound, amplified by appearances at major festivals like Lollapalooza and Siren Music Festival, catapulted their presence in the indie music scene throughout 2007.
The duo’s unstoppable momentum continued as they recorded their sophomore album, *Grand*, which debuted in 2009 on Fader Records. The album cracked the Billboard 200 at number 165, marking a significant milestone in their career. Their next project, *Sidewalks*, was released just a year later and featured the wildly popular music video for “Lessons Learned,” in which Matt and Kim strip down to their birthday suits in the streets of New York City. This bold move helped the album soar to number 30 on the charts.
In November 2012, Matt and Kim released *Lightning*, self-produced once again by the band. The album showcased their unique blend of catchy melodies and bold energy, while in 2013, they followed up with *Lightning Remixes*. Their latest offering, *New Glow*, was released in 2015 through Harvest Records, cementing their place as one of the most exciting and unpredictable acts in indie music. Always evolving and continuously embracing new ideas, Matt and Kim remain an unstoppable force in the music world.
