Hailing from Detroit, Mike Cross is best known as the founding guitarist of the rock band Sponge, a defining force in ’90s alternative rock. With his signature crunchy guitar riffs, infectious hooks, and unmistakable sound, Cross played a pivotal role in launching the band to stardom.

As a co-writer for Sponge’s platinum-selling debut album, Rotting Piñata, as well as their follow-ups, Wax Ecstatic and New Pop Sunday, Cross helped shape the band’s identity and solidify their place in rock history. Their massive hits and high-energy performances led them to tour extensively, headlining shows across the U.S. and Europe while sharing the stage with Alice In Chains, KISS, and Soundgarden. Cross and his bandmates also brought their electrifying presence to late-night TV, appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Conan O’Brien Show, and The Jon Stewart Show.

Now stepping into the spotlight as the lead vocalist and guitarist for his own project, MC Roads, Cross has crafted a fresh yet nostalgic sound that blends guitar-driven intensity with melodic depth. His new music captures the essence of both modern and classic rock, proving that his signature style remains as compelling as ever.

MC Roads’ debut release, No Nostalgia, has already garnered rave reviews for its authenticity and Detroit rock grit. Rock At Night Magazine praised the album, noting: “The dual-guitar attack and harmonies from Cross and his bandmates occasionally recall touchstones of a classic era like Clapton. But make no mistake: On full display here is the searing imprint of musical high drama unique to Cross that distinguished Sponge’s most memorable work.”

With MC Roads, Mike Cross continues to push rock forward while staying true to the sound that made him a legend.
